Lethargia

Missed a day or so. My bad. Not like it really matters anywho. As for today, not much else happening. I've been inking a page a day in trying to get caught up and to increase my speed etc. I'm having a crisis of style. I really like using the brush to ink but am seeing the benefits of the quill and a french curve for those perfect-looking lines. The other thing is, I really like how crisp the lines look but I think that they're probably too fine to reproduce anyway. Oh well, I'll work it out and probably keep doing as I have been moreso lately - inking the farther away items with the quill (not as much lineweight needed) and the nearer things with the brush (better lineweight for me).

I started prepping a page for the Kord & Harley 2nd issue and I've become very discouraged. I've been flying with these pages but, pages 1 and 2 just came in (they had to be re-done). Page 1 is really problem for me. The script is followed pretty loosely and the final panel is supposed to depict a crosswalk. It really doesn't. There is a violation of the 180 degree rule from panels 2 to 3 and then, to top that all off, there's a tangent in them too. *sigh* Nothing to get worked up over but it's killed my inking mood. I'm gonna stop for tonight and start back tomorrow.

Consistency

Woo hoo! A blog post two days in a row. I'm sure this'll last...yeah, right.

Anyway, not much out of the ordinary happening. I finished inking up and sent off page 11 of a book called Hunter & Prey last night/this afternoon. That's all of the pages I have for that book currently and I'm starting on a Page for Kord & Harley #2 now.

Comments flying fast and furious at TheInkwell. I think this place is going to be good for me. I just wish it was in a format that was easier to read. Oh well...on with the inking.

I'm taking my inspiration from Mike Wieringo. He seems to post something on his site/blog just about every day.




I drew a pic of Sinestro for the Legion of Doom drawoff thing at ComicBloc. I haven't really drawn anything in over a year. I've been inking. It turned out okay but not great. My favorite part of it is the lettering for his name at the top. I learned how to import fonts into my Photoshop and Illustrator programs. I couldn't figure out how to do what I wanted with the letters in Illustrator (still need to sit down and try to figure out the basics of it) so I did the lettering in Photoshop. Looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Also, based upon a suggestion from Chuck Gibson at the Bart Sears site, I joined The Inkwell Group. Seems like Aaron Sowd, Tim Townsend, Bob McLeod and a whole host of big-name inkers are there. I don't know how to post images there yet but I look forward to the crits and comments.

Disappearance

Well, it's been a couple (or more) months since I've put down anything in here. Things have, as they tend to do, moved quite quickly within the world. Our first books for Mortal World Entertainment are being prepped and sent to a printer in San Antonio. Hopefully, all will go smoothly with the printers and we will be selling them at our webstore within the next couple of months. I am the inker on a lot of the stories contained in the first two compendiums. I'm also the Assistant Editor.

I'm now the inker of credit on three different titles for Mortal World also. So far I have inked all 24 pages of Kord & Harley #1 and we're also prepping it for the printers. I've recently also taken on the inking chores for Hunter & Prey. I have only received the first eleven pages for Issue 1 so far and have inked all but one of those. When I get that done, I have ten or so pages of Kord & Harley #2 to get started on. We've also hired a new penciler, Jonathan Rector (JAR), and he has already completed five pages of Kord & Harley #3. He is supposed to pencil Issue 4 also with the first penciler, Mark Henry, finishing up #2 and then moving on to #5. Matt Adams, writer/publisher, hopes that this will keep us on a monthly schedule. Also, the guy I had thought was going to take on some Kord & Harley work, Jim Kyle, is at work currently penciling Soulless, I believe. If I understand Matt correctly, they want me to ink that one too. This guy has a lot of detail in his art so this will be quite a task I think. We'll see...

We wanted to see what my inks would look like over JAR's pencils so he sent this recent commission he'd completed to ink. Here's the final results.

Turned out pretty good, I guess. Tony Moore even commented on it at his site. Oh yeah, the inks spoken of earlier in the blog for a story titled Mask of Fright (now titled just Fright) looks like it will be published in an anthology called Dark Thresholds. Dario is self-publishing it, I believe, through his Panday Studios. Enough for now...I'll try to post more later. Some day...

Happy New Year

Well, another year has begun with little fanfare. Hard to believe that it's 2006 already. Who'd a thunk it? I've lived 'til 2006.

Anywho, on with the semi-usual blather. Still unemployed but looking. House is scheduled (once again) to close tomorrow. We'll see and keep our fingers crossed. Still working on the inks to finish up Kord & Harley #1 for Mortal World Entertainment. Also, took a sequential break and inked a sketch cover by Rags Morales.




Xmas was okay and New Years' uneventful so nothing to write about there. Really not a whole lot going on right now. I'll post more next time...whenever that is.
